Significant internal alterations and extension to an existing house off Chiswick High Street, London. The new extension has the appearance of being quite separate from the main building when viewed from the exterior, but runs through almost seamlessly on the interior. This is emphasised by the glazed strip running the full length of both walls, fully exposing the propped building and its means of support, allowing a great amount of light into the space at all times of the day. The south elevation of the extension is almost completely glazed, minimally framed by the brick structure. The glazing consists of four large doors, which fold back in two stages to allow the partial or complete opening of the wall onto the garden, transforming the two separate rooms of kitchen and garden into one large space. A flat roof construction has been used, on which lies a timber deck surrounded by a low parapet wall. This terrace is accessed through a new door replacing the existing bathroom window.
