Open competition entry for the Venice Biennale, 2008. The scheme aimed to create a flexible, practical gathering space, which sits comfortably within Venice's busy streetscape. Using moveable vertical rods set in a grid on a plinth the pavilion attempts to encourage visitors and passers-by to interact and engage with the installation and one another. This process of interaction will in turn create unique spaces which are ever changing and allowing passers by to consider their relationship to their natural and man made environment. After the Venice Biennale the pavilion can be dismantled, transported and set up again in other locations, either in the same or smaller configurations. At the end of its lifespan all of the building materials can be recycled or reduced to woodchips and burned to generate energy.
